Welcome

I hope that you have all enjoyed a wonderful break and I extend a warm welcome to our new and returning families to Star of the Sea. It is wonderful to have you all as a part of our fantastic learning community and our first few days of term have reflected a spirit of positivity, welcome and pride in our community.

There have been many remarkable moments over the past several days! We welcomed our new Prep students to their first year of formal schooling, our Year 6 students to leadership roles and new families and members of our teaching team to SOTS. Also, we shared in the excitement of a new year level for returning students and, most importantly, our students were engaged in great learning!

I was able to share in the energy, enthusiasm and professionalism of our teaching and support staff during our recent professional learning days. Their efforts have supported a smooth transition for our students into the new school year, with great learning happening. I believe that you can learn a lot about a place by just spending time walking around and observing. As you visit your child’s learning area in the days ahead, I know that you will agree that our teaching teams have created inviting and engaging spaces for students to learn in each day. Take some time to share in all the little things in the learning areas, like the ‘welcome’ at the door of Mrs Hardy’s Year 4 Learning Area:
  • You are scientists
  • You are explorers
  • You are important
  • You are loved
  • You are respected
  • You are a friend
  • You are the reason that we are here!

This is just one of many examples that contribute greatly to promoting a sense of belonging for our students, and support the creation of genuine, warm and happy spaces that are needed for great learning.

As we begin our new school year, I am reminded of how incredibly grateful I am for our teaching and support teams, our students, and for all that you do as parents to support your children and our SOTS team. This partnership is invaluable in the learning progress of each child and helps them to feel connected to their learning and to our school community.

I look forward to sharing the great year of learning that is ahead of us, with you and your family.
