Each year since 1945, the Children’s Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this time, schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.
Due to COVID, we had to reschedule our annual Book Week. It will now take place in the first week of Term 4. The theme this year is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’. Here is a link to the website: https://www.cbca.org.au/
Star of the Sea will celebrate ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’ with our annual ‘Book Week Parade and Book Fair’. During this week, students will gather daily as a school to listen to one of the shortlisted books. On Thursday the 7th October, we will celebrate our week with a parade where students and staff are invited to dress up as one of their favourite book characters. Students can wear their costume to school for the day or bring their uniform to change into after the parade. There will be several ‘best dressed’ prizes awarded to students from each year level. If you’re stuck for ideas, check out our Facebook post (25th Aug 2019 & 23rd October 2020).
We will again be hosting our annual stall as part of our Book Week celebrations. Scholastic Books will set up a very large display of books. Students and their families will be able to visit the stall before and after school to purchase books. A commission from these sales will be given to the school to purchase new books for our library. In the coming days, we will email all families to let you know how we will be running the store this year so that we comply with all COVID restrictions.
Book Fair will remain open until Monday 11th October
