I am delighted to announce that Star of the Sea will again participate in the 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge. Reading plays an important part in students’ lives during their school years and beyond. It allows children to actively engage their imagination and opens up a world of educational opportunities. Last year, an outstanding 181,000 students from 1012 schools took part in the challenge reading a total of 2.46 million books.
The 2019 Premier's Reading Challenge has now started and will close on Friday the 23 August. To successfully complete the challenge, students in:
Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim for the 2019 challenge is to engage more students reading more books than ever before. Each student will receive a Premier’s Reading Challenge Record Sheet this week. Students need to fill in this sheet and return to the office once they have read either 15 (years 5/6) or 20 books (Prep – Year 4).
Every student who completes the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier. Students will receive their certificate at an assembly in November. For more information about the Premier’s Reading Challenge, please visit: http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/readingchallenge/
As a school, we will be adding a couple of extra incentives to this challenge. Each week at assembly, we will draw out one lucky winner from the box of completed Record Sheets to win a prize. When your child has read the required number of books, make sure to submit your completed Record Sheet to the office so that they can be added to this draw. Also, the first class to have everyone complete the challenge, will receive some yummy treats to celebrate their reading!
You can play a big part in your children’s future by encouraging them to be part of this positive initiative. I look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible embrace the 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
